SaveFood: Expiry Tracker ("SaveFood", "we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and username. This information is stored securely using Firebase Authentication and Firebase Firestore.

Food Inventory Data: Information about food items you add to the app, including item names, categories, quantities, storage locations, purchase dates, and expiry dates. This data is stored locally on your device using Hive database.

Camera and Photos: When you use our scanning features, the app accesses your camera to photograph receipts, food packages, or fridge contents. Photos taken for scanning are processed and are not stored permanently. Receipt text is extracted on-device using Google ML Kit before being sent to our AI service for analysis.

Subscription Data: If you subscribe to Premium, Apple handles all payment processing. We store your subscription status (active/inactive) and plan type in our database to provide Premium features. We do not have access to your payment details, credit card number, or Apple ID password.

Your food inventory data is stored locally on your device. User profile and subscription data is stored in Firebase Firestore with industry-standard security measures. We use secure HTTPS connections for all data transfers.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your food items at any time within the app. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at the email address below.

SaveFood is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add food items?

Tap the "+" button on the Pantry screen to add items manually. You can also use the camera icon to scan receipts, barcodes, or photograph your fridge contents for automatic item detection.

How does AI scanning work?

Point your camera at a grocery receipt, food package barcode, or your fridge/cart contents. Our AI analyzes the image and automatically identifies food items with their categories and estimated expiry dates. Guest users get 5 free AI scans, registered users get 10, and Premium users get 100 scans.

How do expiry notifications work?

SaveFood sends you reminders 2 days before, 1 day before, and on the day a food item expires. Make sure notifications are enabled in your device Settings for SaveFood.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Go to your iPhone Settings > tap your name (Apple ID) > Subscriptions > SaveFood. From there you can change your plan or cancel. You can also manage subscriptions from within the app under Profile > Manage Subscription.

How do I restore my Premium subscription?

If you reinstalled the app or switched devices, go to Profile > Manage Subscription > Restore Purchases. This will restore your active subscription from the App Store.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your food inventory is stored locally on your device. Receipt text is extracted on-device before analysis. We do not sell your data. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
